Have you ever dreamt of solving a Rubik’s Cube?
Being able to twist the pieces in a matter of seconds to get the same colors on each side is something very few people in this world can do.
Until now. Well, with the help of the Cube-Tastic app.
And lets never mind the kids, Cube-Tastic is my favorite fidgeting puzzle. I’m obsessed with it. I’ve been trying to solve a Rubik’s cube since I was a child, and now I finally can. How to solve a Rubiks cube has been a quest many have been on for decades. Augmented reality and technology have finally provided the answer.
So how does this cube puzzle differ from a Rubik’s cube? What’s so special and even more playable than the original? Let’s review.

Unboxing the Cube-Tastic!
There isn’t anything really to unbox. You get the cube puzzle in the box and have to download the app to your iPad, Android Tablet or SmartPhone.
The cube itself is really smooth to twist and has curved corners. It is white with attractive bright colors so will appeal to kids. Each square has a raised circle giving it a nice texture and each centre square has a little icon on it.

How To Solve a Rubik’s Cube for Kids Using an App
After you install the app, you start by scrambling up the cube, if you haven’t done that already. The app will ask you to position your screen over the cube in line with the white lines. Then you just follow the instructions. Using Augmented Reality, the app scans in each side of the cube.
So, for example, you might start off and position the camera over the purple middle square, then the green, then the blue, until the app has a reading on all sides of the cube. It’s then able to figure out exactly what your cube looks like and design a virtual representation of it. Sometimes it will ask you to choose a cube that looks like yours. But most of the time you are ready for the next step.
I found sometimes if the light wasn’t good, the scanning would fail on the yellow circle, and I’d have to start again. So that was a bit annoying.
Next, position your 3D cube puzzle according to the image with centre yellow facing up, blue on the left and red on the right. Then it’s time to solve the cube. The app displays how many steps are needed to complete the puzzle. I’ve gone from less than 10, to 34 steps when it’s been really jumbled up.
This is when the cool part comes in, it starts to animate how you should rotate each side. You can pause it, or manually go forward to the next step. After a few tries, I just started doing it quickly following the animation.
When you have solved one puzzle, it unlocks the ‘Learning’ section where there are simple tutorials so you can understand what you are moving and why. Then you can collect trophies for your cabinet.
