Applying algorithms to the real world [TedEd Talk + Flip]

TedEd have released a new video from Kevin Slavin, who argues that we’re living in a world designed for — and increasingly controlled by — algorithms. He shows how these complex computer programs determine espionage tactics, stock prices, movie scripts, and architecture. Slavin also warns that we are writing code we can’t understand with implications we can’t control.

This video would be a great supplement to math, computing or science classes to help with applied learning and connect mathematical constructs to the wider world.

TedEd have supplemented this video with eight multiple choice questions, and some additional resources that have been set up for flipped classroom teachers.
