New app resurrects popular PBS reading show

Having disappeared from TV screens in 2009, popular PBS reading programme Reading Rainbow is going to be resurrected as an app for the iPad.

The app will feature over 150 books on its initial release and will have the books classified into several different categories, disguised as islands. The islands will feature books that are all related to a similar subject such as animals or family. The app will also be designed in different colours hat will help appeal to its audience of 3-9 year olds.

The stories will all be narrated by a whole host of different celebrity voices including work by the original host of the TV show, Levar Burton. Alongside this, parents will also be able to see what content their children have read and any news on updates for the app.

The Reading Rainbow app will initially be available on The App Store for $9.99 a month or $29.99 for 6 months.
