Learning with The Gregory Brothers ‘Wikiwars’
The Gregory Brothers are famous for their viral videos, and their latest video shows the brothers playing Wikiwars; a wikipedia search game. To win a WikiWars round, a player must click from one specific Wikipedia article to another using only links within Wikipedia articles.
We were thinking how this would be a great game in the classroom for kids to learn lateral thinking, vocabulary development and online searching techniques. Not only does it add a competitive gaming element to learning, but it helps kids learn new vocabulary.
We thought up some wikiwars suggestions for the classroom:
‘The Renaissance’ to ‘Lasagne’
‘Dominican Republic’ to ‘Javan Rhinocerous
‘Invertebrate’ to ‘Boy Scouts of America’
‘Polar Ice Pack’ to ‘Biochemistry’
According to the video ‘Victory requires mental focus, precise clicking, a surprisingly large need for a knowledge of geography, and the ability to not start hyperventilating.’
